In November l994, Anna and I
went to a cat show and found our seal-point girl, Belle d’Jour Ptah’s
Descentans, a four-month-old kitten at the show. The cat show was in
Brueckobel, Germany; we lived in Germany for five years; and Belle’s
breeder is Barbara Presley, who has raised Siamese and Oriental Shorthairs
for 45 years and whose parents raised Siamese before her. Barbara herself
did some of the early crosses with the Abyssinians to achieve the
cinnamon-colored Oriental Shorthair.
By the end of l996, Belle
had had two litters of seal-point kittens in Germany. We were hoping for a
solid chestnut or an ebony, but now we were coming back to America, so
Barbara traded us one of our seal-point kittens for her ebony Ptah’s
Descentans Illusion.
The last thing before we
left Barbara’s house on our way to the Frankfurt Airport with Belle and
Illusion, Barbara ran back into the house, got a fuzzy green cage cover and
wrapped it around Belle’s and Illusion’s cage against Germany’s December
cold, and we all began the journey back to the United States.
We like to remember that our
German kitty-girls packed up their bags one day, the two of them together,
left the Old Country, and got on the jet plane for the New World.
Belle’s sire is Champion
Nobility’s Little Joe, and Belle’s dam, Champion Shadow Ptah’s Descentans.

Belle’s last litter before being
spayed was with our Champion Normerae Mata Kahurangi in early 2002 and
produced her beautiful blue-eyed white daughter Champion El Morya Ode to
Joy, featured in our “Cat Videos” on our Home page. Belle has enjoyed being
a grandmother to her daughter Grand Champion Annika’s kittens, and will
hopefully be a doting grandmother to many more.
